I live in Arkansas close to the Arkansas River and have never fished in a river before. I am use to pond fishing with worms. What type of line, hooks, weights, and bait do I use to catch catfish?
Fishing in the river isn’t different then fishing in a pond. One issue you will have to contend with though is the current. I use the same bait in the river as I do in the pond. As long as the worm is on the hook good, you are going to do just find in spite of the current. The one thing you will have to figure out though is how much weight you need to keep the line on the bottom of the water.
The heavier the current is, the more weight you need to add. Once that has been determined, the other factors will be almost the same. When I fish in the river, I try to stay close to a bend where the current will be slower. These areas also offer a deep hole where the larger fish will be at. You have to get used to watching your pole moving more than usual too due to the debris in the water.
